This PhD project is a collaboration between the Centre of Bioethical Research & Analysis (COBRA), Dept. of Philosophy and REMEDI. The thesis research examines substantive metaphysical questions raised by embryonic stem cell research, such as the moral status of the human embryo, as well as the social justice issues, such as the exploitation of women and women’s bodies. These considerations are contextualised in Ireland; looking at the past, present and future.
