Linking Cartilage Research to Surgical Intervention

Research Project Area:

We are investigating the role of mesenchymal stem cell  and genetic therapy in cartilage repair following injury. In particular we are interested in the role of inflammation in this process and are looking at ways to modify this to facilitate cartilage repair and prevent or delay progression to osteoarthritis. In addition to the orthobiologic faculty & researchers at REMEDI, including Professor Frank Barry, Dr Mary Murphy and Professor Timothy O Brien, this work involves a collaboration with Professor Christopher Evans at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Medical School, & the surgical faculty at the Cartilage Repair Centre, Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston. There is a particular focus on translational research in this program.
