Welcome to the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI®)

Medtronic

REMEDI's major industrial healthcare cooperation is with Medtronic Inc., a world leader in medical device technologies. REMEDI and Medtronic have partnered since 2004 to identify and develop new treatments for vascular diseases.

Medtronic is the global leader in medical technology, alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life for millions of people around the world. The company was founded in 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, and today employs more than 38, 000 people worldwide.  Medtronic has been present in Ireland since 1999. The focus of the cooperation is in the field of cardiovascular disease. Medtronic's Irish facility is located in the Parkmore Business Park in Galway.

A part of the Vascular Division, Medtronic Galway employs in excess of 2000 people, and manufactures minimally invasive products such as balloon catheters, delivery systems, coronary stents and drug-eluting stents, for the treatment of vascular arterial disease. Details of Medtronic's international operations can be found on their corporate website at www.medtronic.com

Education & Exchange of Knowledge Programme

A great effort has been made by both REMEDI and Medtronic to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between the two organizations. Medtronic has hosted a number of lectures presented by REMEDI personnel both in Galway and the United States. A seminar series where REMEDI personnel visit the Medtronic Galway facility and present on regenerative medicine in cardiovascular disease, and where Medtronic personnel visit the University and present on the medical device industry, products and clinical trials, has been a huge success. Attendance at the seminars has been optimal with both parties gaining a good insight into each other’s fields of expertise.

"We are very excited to continue our fruitful and productive collaboration with Medtronic for many years to come."

Prof. Timothy O' Brien, Director, REMEDI
